Principal's Message

Welcome to Timber Springs Middle School and the 2022-23 school year.  We are excited to return to face-to-face school for the upcoming year.

The Florida Department of Education has provided our school performance data for the 2021-22 school year. We improved by nine percent from 57% (2021) to 66% (2022) according to the state grading system.  Since the minimum percent required by the state to receive an ‘A” is 62%, we in effect moved from a “B” last year (no official school grades given) to an “A” this year. Our highest percent achieved was 67% (2018-19) so at 66% we reached nearly the highest percent in TSMS history.

I am so thankful to have such a caring and compassionate faculty and staff with outstanding expertise.  Demonstration of these and other attributes are what students attach to leading to high student achievement results.

In following with the TSMS school motto, “Where We Go the Extra Mile”, our theme for the 2022-23 school year will focus on building and maintaining effective relationships through social/emotional learning (SEL) and building foundational attributes of Cambridge International Learners and Teachers.  We will continue to intertwine the F.I.S.H. philosophy (Fun in School Happens), with an emphasis on continuing to build high levels of collaboration and support among students for accelerated learning this year. Look for #thewolverineway and #whateveritTakeS throughout the year

In addition to #thewolverineway and #whateveritTakeS” we will again be a Character Lab Research School. Based on the work of Dr. Angela Duckworth, Founder of Character Lab, Professor of Psychology and researcher at The University of Pennsylvania and author of Grit, The Power of Passion and Perseverance, we know that developing strong relationships based on diversity, equity and inclusion is the cornerstone for implementing a whole child approach to student success.  We will continue to build the characteristics of grit, SEL and strong relationships with Cambridge Learner and Teacher foundational attributes: Responsible, Innovative, Confident, Engaged and Reflective into our school culture.

Students who participated in similar activities, as those with Character Lab, have shown improved achievement and well-being. This may look like increased academic effort, greater homework completion, better attendance, or higher GPA.

We will continue to incorporate Facebook, Instagram and Twitter as our school social media platforms.  Be sure to regularly check our school webpage, digital marquee and social media pages for important information throughout the school year.

Continued thanks go to our parents, families, volunteers and business partners whose ongoing support creates a sense of excitement #thewolverineway, leading to the success we have realized during our first five years. The enthusiasm generated from such spirit and excitement will enable us to continue to make a difference in the lives of our students that will last a lifetime.

So TSMS, let’s do, #whateveritTakeS” the #thewolverineway.

Best Regards,

Ric Cantrell
