Principal's Message

Welcome back to all members of our Timber Springs community. We recently learned our students performed very well following our inaugural school year. Timber Springs Middle School received the grade of "B" by the state of Florida school grading system. We are very proud and excited as a school and community for this strong performance (within one percent of an "A") after our first year.

In following with the TSMS school slogan, "Where We Go The Extra Mile," our theme for the 2018-19 school year will focus on TEAM and interdependence (based on trusting relationships) we need to rely upon for all students and staff to realize success. We will continue to intertwine the F.I.S.H. philosophy (Fun In School Happens) with an emphasis on teamwork, as a means of continuing to build and maintain student motivation and staff morale for consistently high levels of student achievement and teacher/staff productivity.

In addition to developing interdependence, by working to embed this sense of TEAM throughout TSMS, students will display deeper levels of grit and strong character traits (supported by faculty and staff) to persevere through adversity. These characteristics will become integral components of our school culture.

In supporting this approach to developing school culture, TSMS will be part of Character Lab during the upcoming school year. What is Character Lab? It is a research project, partnering OCPS and TSMS with educational experts like Dr. Angela Duckworth. The project is designed to improve student performance and an overall sense of success. Students who participated in similar activities have shown improved achievement and well-being. This may look like increased academic effort, greater homework completion, better attendance, or higher GPA.

Continued thanks go to our parents, families, volunteers and business partners whose ongoing support creates a sense of excitement and "Wolverine Pride" about learning for all students and staff. The enthusiasm generated from such spirit and excitement will enable us to continue to make a difference for our students that will last a lifetime.

Best Regards,

Ric Cantrell
