Timber Springs Wolverines

Principal's Message

Welcome to Timber Springs Middle School and the 2020-21 school year.  We are excited to return to the new school year, following the distance learning format for all students and teachers during the fourth marking period of the 2019-20 school year.  The format choices for instruction and learning for the new school year will be [email protected], Face to Face or OCVS.  Parents can refer to our OCPS webpage for more detailed information about each of these choices.

The Florida Department of Education did not issue school grades following the 2019-20 school year, as there was no FSA or End of Course testing upon which to base school grades.  As such, we will carry our school grade of “A” from the 2018-19 into the 2020-21 school year.

In following with the TSMS school motto, “Where We Go the Extra Mile”, our theme for the 2020-21 school year will focus on building success through social/emotional learning (SEL) that leads to effective relationships.  SEL will also be a primary initiative of OCPS in the new year. We will incorporate the phrase, No Matter What, Wolverines Get Things Done!  We will continue to emphasize kindness amongst faculty/staff, teacher to student and student to student, needed for all students and teachers to realize success. We will continue to intertwine the F.I.S.H. philosophy (Fun In School Happens), with an emphasis on building strength and unity as we return for the new school year (look for #TogetherStrong throughout this year).

In addition to #TogetherStrong we will again be a Character Lab Research School. Based on the work of Dr. Angela Duckworth, Founder of Character Lab, Professor of Psychology at The University of Pennsylvania and author of Grit, The Power of Passion and Perseverance, we know that developing strong relationships based on diversity, equity and inclusion is the cornerstone for implementing a whole child approach to student success.  We will continue to build the characteristics of grit, SEL and strong relationships into our school culture.

Students who participated in similar activities, as those with Character Lab, have shown improved achievement and well-being. This may look like increased academic effort, greater homework completion, better attendance, or higher GPA.

We will continue to incorporate Facebook, Instagram and Twitter as our school social media platforms.  Be sure to regularly check our school webpage and social media pages for important information throughout the school year.

Continued thanks go to our parents, families, volunteers and business partners whose ongoing support creates a sense of excitement and “Wolverine Pride” about the success we have realized during our first three years. This years’ eighth grade students’ will be our second group of students to complete all three years of middle school at TSMS.  We are looking forward to celebrating this special year with all of our student Wolverines. The enthusiasm generated from such spirit and excitement will enable us to continue to make a difference in the lives of all of our students that will last a lifetime.

Best Regards,

Ric Cantrell
