Home of the Wolverines

Principal's Message
Welcome to Timber Springs Middle School and the
2019-20 school year. We recently learned
that our students performed exceptionally well as measured through the Florida
school grading system last year. TSMS
received 609 points or 68% of possible points from the 2018-19 school grading
formula. Compare these results to 2017-18 when we received 549 points or 61% of
possible points. Improvement of 60 points and 7% is phenomenal growth. We are
very proud and excited as a school and community about this fantastic
improvement in our student performance. Yes, Timber Springs Middle School is now a strong “A” rated school going
into our third year – Go Wolverines!
In following with the TSMS
school motto, “Where We Go the Extra Mile”, our theme for the 2019-20 school
year will focus on building and maintaining effective relationships, based on
kindness amongst faculty/staff, teacher to student and student to student,
needed for all students and teachers to realize success. We will continue to
intertwine the F.I.S.H. philosophy (Fun In School Happens), with an emphasis on
building teams while having some fun (look for #gametime throughout this school
year).
In addition to the #gametime
approach, we will again be a Character Lab Research Pilot School. Based on the
work of Dr. Angela Duckworth, Founder of Character Lab, Professor of Psychology
at The University of Pennsylvania and author of Grit, The Power of Passion and Perseverance, we know that
developing strong relationships is the cornerstone for implementing a whole
child approach to student success. We
will continue to build the characteristics of grit and strong relationships
into our school culture.
Students who participated in similar activities, as
those with Character Lab, have shown improved achievement and well-being. This
may look like increased academic effort, greater homework completion, better
attendance, or higher GPA.
This year we will be adding
Instagram and Twitter, along with Facebook, to our school social media
platform. Be sure to regularly check our
school webpage and social media pages for important information throughout the
school year.
Continued thanks
go to our parents, families, volunteers and business partners whose ongoing
support creates a sense of excitement and “Wolverine Pride” about the success
we have realized during our first two years. This years’ eighth grade students will
enjoy being our first group of students to have the TSMS experience during all
three years of middle school. We are
looking forward to celebrating this special year with our eighth graders. The
enthusiasm generated from such spirit and excitement will enable us to continue
to make a difference for our students that will last a lifetime.
Best Regards,
Ric Cantrell
