Our Assurances:

  • Assure that all students with disabilities show annual improvement in academic achievement and make progress toward closing the achievement gap.
  • Eliminate unnecessary referrals to special education.
  • Assure that all students with disabilities are educated in settings with their non-disabled peers to the maximum extent appropriate to meet their needs.
  • Eliminate the disproportionate classification and placement of minority students in special education.
  • Increase access for all students with disabilities to career, technical education and post secondary opportunities.

 

Exceptional Student Education Delivery Models 

Consultation: The student is placed in a general education classes. The ESE teacher will provide support to the general education teacher for implementation of accommodations as identified in the student’s Individual Education Plan. The general education and ESE teacher meet on a regular scheduled basis to monitor student progress.

Support Facilitation: The student receives support services from the ESE teacher within the general education classroom. These services are provided based on the IEP of each individual student.  

Self-Contained Special Standards/Special Diploma Curriculum: These students receive instruction from an ESE teacher and participate in state standards access point curriculum for the majority of the school day. The students follow a modified curriculum specifically designed to meet the needs of ESE students that are assessed through the Florida Alternate Assessment. A student who completes this specified program of course work will receive an access point standard diploma at high school graduation.

 

Eligibility for ESE services and individual need is taken into consideration when scheduling ESE students. 

ESE Eligibility and ESE Programs are described in the Special Programs and Procedures for Exceptional Students Document which is approved by the Florida Department of Education. Please refer to the Orange County website directory for ESE Vision, Mission and Assurances. 

The following class schedule options can be considered for any Timber Springs MS  ESE student and will be determined by the IEP team *. 

Individual goals and accommodations needed for success will also be determined by the IEP team.

ESE Program Options:

 

Specific Learning Disability (SLD) Option #1: 

Pull-Out (self contained) support in Language Arts and/or Math. Science and Social Studies in the General Education with accommodations.  *ESE certified teacher will rotate/facilitate in Science and Social Studies as needed. 

Specific Learning Disability (SLD) Option #2: 

Co-taught support in Math and/or Language Arts.  Science and Social Studies in the General Education with accommodations.  *ESE certified teacher will rotate/facilitate in Science and Social Studies as needed. 

Emotional Behavior Disability (EBD), Intellectual Disability (InD), Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Other Health Impaired (OHI):

Self Contained available with Personal Social Skills.  General Education classes (Academic, Electives, Fitness) will be determined by individual need and the IEP team. 

Speech/Language, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy:  Itinerant services available based on eligibility, educational relevance and IEP recommendation. 

Any of the above Programs:  Consultative support with accommodations in the General Education class

Gifted 6th/7th/8th Grade Options: Gifted /or Advance Placement (AP) Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies. Gifted and Advanced Students are eligible for advanced classes.  

Assessment scores, classroom performance, teacher recommendation and Gifted Educational Plan will determine class assignment.
