Attendance

Attendance At TSMS

Every day counts! At Timber Springs Middle School, we care that every student shows up to school, all day every day. We are committed to working with families to ensure that every student attends school regularly and achieves their full potential. By prioritizing attendance, we can create a brighter future for all our students. Below, you will find resources to help achieve successful attendance throughout the year. Attached, you can review the TSMS Attendance Flyer that will provide you with information regarding the school’s and district polices and procedures regarding attendance.

If your student is absent from school, you will need to provide a written excuse for the absence in . If none is provided, your student will be assigned an un-excused absence. Any physical documentation turned in must be placed in the front office for processing.

Attendance documentation can be provided through the following means:

Acceptable Documentation

  • Handwritten note outlining the reason for absence signed by the registered parent/guardian.
  • An email to the Attendance Clerk from the registered parent/guardian sent to 110075@ocps.net outlining the reason for the absence
  • OCPS Excused Absence Form

Please Note: Any excuse that is not from a legal source, such as a doctor’s office, professional, law proceeding, and etc, will be deemed as a parent note. Students are allowed to excuse up to 5 days per semester per parent note. Once the threshold has been met, any other absense that does not include a form of legal documentation above, will be considered an “un-excused absence”.

For more information, we request you review the OCPS Attendance Handbook.

Attendance FAQ

  • Yes. Please email Ms. Febus for any attendance information or records. While the absence will be taken care of, we will still need the documentation turned in at your earliest convience for our record keeping.

  • For any student arrival or early dismissal, students must be signed out in the front office. Emergency contacts need to be able to provide proper ID as well.

  • No. For a student to be excused, documentation of proof still needs to be completed to Ms. Febus or the front office upon return.

  • We understand that sometimes absences are unavoidable, and excused absences are certainly preferable.
However, it's important to remember that any missed class time can affect learning.
Even with an excused absence, students still miss out on valuable instruction and classroom discussions. We encourage families to work with us to minimize any disruptions to learning, even when absences are excused.

  • A strong start in middle school is essential, building the foundations for future academic success in the secondary setting.
Missing school in the early years can make it harder to keep up later on.

  • It is easy to underestimate the impact of a few missed days, but even two days a month adds up quickly to 10% of the school year. Lost classroom time can mean missing core concepts and falling behind. Consistent attendance helps students stay on track and get the most out of their education
